EMDR or Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy is an approach in psychotherapy that has become more popular over the last couple of years. Some call it magic, I call it your brain’s secret weapon.
EMDR therapy is an interactive and collaborative process between the client and the therapist. The client and therapist develop goals together and identify situations that have caused trauma or difficult feelings and reactions, such as disturbing pictures or sensations. With the help of bilateral stimulation in form of fast eye movements (right to left) or tapping (left and right side of the body) the client is able to process disturbing memories more easily. Clients like this approach because they go into less detail than in other talk therapy formats. In this approach the brain does this work on its own. One can imagine the process being similar to REM sleep and the client is an active participant in the process.
Clients often report a sense of calm and relief during sessions. EMDR is an evidence-based technique, which means it is backed up by years of research. It has been proven to be effective to reduce symptoms of PTSD, depression, grief, loss, stress, anxiety, phobias, sexual or physical abuse, and panic attacks.
Those who serve others often find deep purpose in their work, but they also face intense and unique stressors that can lead to chronic stress, burnout, PTSD, and other mental health challenges. Standard care plans frequently fail to meet these specific needs, affecting both their personal well-being and professional effectiveness and performance. I provide specialized therapy approaches customized for first responders and military personnel, including EMDR and Flash technique. My approach is designed to resolve trauma, enhance mental clarity, and proactively boost resilience, ensuring you can perform at your best.
This psychotherapy approach uses a variety of research based techniques and tools to help you strengthen your realtionship. In couple's therapy addressing pregnancy and postpartum I will use these tools to guide you through vulnerable conversations and help you strengthen your bond and support for each other and your new addition to the family. It can help you improve your communication, intimacy, oove and admiration and the bonding between you and your partner. We will also look at shared values and aspirations for the future. You will learn valuable skills, but also take a deep dive into your partner's world of emotions, experiences and past stories of their life. This is not a method to avoid or never fight again. We will talk about how to get through conflict and how to repair. Because let's be real: relationships are messy, but if we are committed to each other, we can learn a lot from each other and with each other.
SYMBIS or "save your marriage before it starts" is an approach that helps couples find out what they bring into a marriage, the good sides and the bad sides. What kind of personality are you? How do you fight? What should we prioritize in our marriage? How can I support my partner in this marriage? We will talk about finances, social support, sex, and more.
